About Us

New House was started by Harold Stanier back in 1921 and today is an innovative design businesses that creates imaginative contempoary decorative trimmings, haberdashery, home accessories and homewares.

Our philosophy has always been to combine creativity, flair, craftsmanship and good British innovation under the one roof.

We are helped that these roofs are in lovely 300yr old buildings, deep in rural Herefordshire, close to a bend in the River Wye. There are remnants of old Roman walls in the gardens, and we're surrounded by miles of quiet woodland and fields so we know how lucky we are.

Our Studio

Our rural location doesn't stop us from employing the best British design talent, so today our studio comprises of :

Where we work

We are lucky to work in a quiet rural setting where the special Herefordshire landscape always help give us inspiration. Please call in if you are passing, as we always enjoy having visitors.

Our process

We are creative people who's ideas and style are our own. Company policy is never to look at rivals collections if we can help it, so we make sure we don't have 'me-too' designs in ours, and go our own way.

We like to work with the same amazingly clever suppliers and manufacturers for years, so a good understanding is built up. By choosing often small manufacturers, they have great traditional craft skills and are never short on advice on how best to make a new product.

The environment is everyone’s concern these days so we always look carefully at where and how things are made. We try to ensure that all our products are made to the highest possible standards and without damage to the environment.

Where we make things

To reduce ‘product miles’ we get as many items made as locally as possible. For example, all our painted items are done 5 miles away in Ledbury, our turned parts in Gloucester (17 miles), wooden parts in Cornwall or Wales, Braids and trimmings in Derbyshire. We always try to source in the UK, and go to small companies who make things in the traditional way.

Our fabrics are made a bit further afield. Some prints are made in Northen Ireland, but most are done in a specialist mill in Sweden who we've worked with for over 30 years. They also have really good environmental standards.
