Our contemporary interior trimmings

We first took an interest in haberdashery over thirty years ago, when shapes at the bottom valance of a blinds were very fashionable.

We designed a gimp braid we called Regency that was easily to apply, bent round corners and also had enough yarn density to stop heat-melt glue from showing through. We have since sold millions of metres of this amazingly versatile flexible interior decorative braid.

However our interest in haberdashery and passementerie really took off with the arrival of Nicky Townley in our design department. When taking images of our roller blind fabric collection, Nicky began adding blind pulls as focal points to make the pictures more interesting. To begin with, we made these pulls from string washed-up on beaches, stones and bits of painted polystyrene. Our customers loved the images, so it wasn't long before Nicky was busy creating new decorative trims, blind pulls and haberdashery collections. 

Many of New House's original classically exuberant, clever or austere haberdashery braid and trimming designs, such as our leather, Charleston, Carpet and woolly trimmings come from this period. These interior haberdashery items were especially useful as we had them available as matching interior trimmings, tiebacks and pulls, so no matter which combination of fabrics, blinds or upholstery was used in a room, they could be linked together with one of our trimming themes : 

New House's modern and contemporary haberdashery braid & trimming collections have grown over the years. Laura Fletcher RCA and Melanie Darwin RCA both joined New House and continued creating great new designs such as these modern trimmings, blind pulls, curtain tiebacks, Roman blind pulls and light pulls :

 

Today contemporary haberdashery design is all about contrasting unusual colours, so today our best selling interior trims must be Fletcher, Stria, and of course pompom braid :

   

 

   

Haberdashery is also all about the little decorative items. For years New House have designed so many blind and light pulls that we are the world's most prolific creator of pulls for all sorts of applications. Our house style is for simple forms and shapes, and often use many different types of materials. Here is a selection of pulls that we make in wood, fine bone china, pewter, glass and textiles, but we make many more.. :

   

   

Child safety is an important issue for blinds and curtains, especially where there can be loose or over-long loop cords. These can be a strangulation hazard for toddlers, so it is always wise to secure these cords to a wall away from inquisitive hands. Over the years we have designed our functional Halo range of roller blind child safety devices that are made from strong engineered aluminium, and also a more decorative range with wooden covers, such as our red car child safety device.

 

We still love all the little trimmings and have designed another decorative gimp braids to bend round corners easily. Arco interior trim comes in 20 glorious bright colours, with a few glitter options too! :
